Raymond Thornton Chandler was an American writer and screenwriter.
In 1932, at age forty-four, Raymond Chandler chose to turn into an investigator fiction essayist subsequent to losing his employment as an oil organization official during the Depression. His first short story, "Blackmailers Don't Shoot", was distributed in 1933 in Black Mask, a prominent mash magazine. His first novel, The Big Sleep, was distributed in 1939. Notwithstanding his short stories, Chandler distributed only seven full books during his lifetime (however an eighth in advancement at his passing was finished by Robert B. Parker). Everything except Playback have been acknowledged into movies, exactly a few times. In the prior year he kicked the bucket, he was chosen leader of the Mystery Writers of America. He passed on March 26, 1959, in La Jolla, California.

Chandler had a gigantic elaborate impact on American prevalent writing, and is considered by numerous individuals to be an author, alongside Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain and other Black Mask journalists, of the hard-bubbled school of investigator fiction. Chandler's Philip Marlowe, alongside Hammett's Sam Spade, are considered by some to be synonymous with "private investigator," both having been played on screen by Humphrey Bogart, whom many viewed as the quintessential Marlowe.
A portion of Chandler's books are viewed as significant abstract works, and three are regularly viewed as magnum opuses: Farewell, My Lovely (1940), The Little Sister (1949), and The Long Goodbye (1953). The Long Goodbye is lauded inside a treasury of American wrongdoing stories as "apparently the principal book since Hammett's The Glass Key, distributed over twenty years sooner, to qualify as a genuine and critical standard novel that coincidentally possessed components of riddle".
